Woodwork

Reliable, repairable, and renewable, wood is the material of our choice for frame construction.

> Why wood? Throughout history, there has never been a better marine construction material. Even today, the best boats being built are made from wood. Synthetic parts are cheaper and easier to fabricate, but kinked aluminum tubing, and cracked, fatigued, plastics are difficult to repair. The super strength and flexibility of ash used in our long frame members, together with the quality and strength of Finnish birch marine plywood, bonded with the best epoxy system available (West System®), continues the evolution of the 5000 year tradition begun by Arctic peoples.

In addition to our high quality epoxy bonding systems, Seavivor® uses the superior two step finishing system of Deks Olje®, a renewable teak oil finish. While our competitors' spar varnish or polyurethane wears well, the finish eventually wears away due to contact with sand and the flex of the hullskin, and the wood is left exposed to moisture exchange. Seavivor® kayaks do not require extensive stripping for maintenance, but only an occasional light coat of oil to maintain their finish.
